Made In America

The other day while Liam was getting ready for school, he informed us that his friend, Jordan, was "not made in America." Knowing that Jordan is an African-American, I knew exactly where the conversation was heading, but wanted to see what would follow and hear Liam's perspective on everything. Keep in mind that Jordan is American and was born and raised here in California.

Liam: "In the country where Jordan was made, they speak Jessicanese. You know, like how we speak English, they speak Jessicanese."

Me: "Jamaican, maybe?"

Liam: "Yeah, I think that's it. But you know he wasn't made in America like me and Devan."

So according to the view of a six-year-old boy, if you have white skin, you can now tell everyone that you were "Made in America."
